Woody Austin - USA Ryder Cup Team

Woody AustinWoody Austin turned professional in 1986, but only made the PGA Tour in 1995, where he won ‘Rookie’ of the year honours. He has won three PGA Tour Titles to date. The Buick Open twice in 1996 and 2004 and last year he won the Stanford St Judes Championship, shooting a final round of 62 and finishing 5 shots clear of Englisman, Brian Davis.. His best performance in 2007 however was his tremendous 2nd place to Tiger Woods in the USPGA. The Stanford win and the PGA performance shot him into the top 50 of the World Ranking’s. He is currently ranked 31st.

Austin has a reputation of being somewhat of an eccentric, for instance in the Presidents Cup competition, Austin turned up in a pair of swimming goggles to play his singles match against Argentian Angel Cabrera. In the same Tournament, he fell into a pond while trying to make a shot with one foot in the water. Also in the Verizon Heritage Tournament in 1997, Austin hit himself five times on the head with his putter and bent the shaft.

This is his first Ryder Cup.
