Webb Simpson

Webb Simpson - US Ryder Cup Team 2012

Webb Simpson will be a first time member of the American Ryder Cup team in 2012 having qualified by right. Simpson has shot up the world rankings over the past couple of years and will be a crucial part of the US Team for the big matches at Medinah. The man from North Carolina is just 27 but already he has his first Major on the board with the 2012 US Open sitting nicely in his trophy cabinet.

Simpson was a brilliant winner of the US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco with a performance which all but secured his place on the American team. It is just his second full year on tour but he does have plenty of experience of playing team golf. As an amateur, Simpson played for the successful Walker Cup team in 2007 as well as in the Palmer Cup the same year which will prove invaluable experience.

In 2011 we saw Simpson play for the USA in the Presidents Cup where he formed a strong partnership with Bubba Watson which could well be repeated during the Ryder Cup. He is clearly a strong player when it comes to match play and team golf despite his young age which will please Davis Love as he looks to plan the Americans route to regaining the Ryder Cup.

Simpson has a total of three PGA tour wins to his name with the US Open of course the biggest. The other two sins came in 2011 when he won the Wyndham Championship and the WGC Deutsche Bank Championship. Those successes have seen Simpson rise into the top ten of the world golf rankings and we expect Simpson to be a key member of the American squad at Medinah in the Ryder Cup.
