Tiger Woods - USA Ryder Cup Team
The most well known name in Golf today. Tiger Woods is a phenomenon and will probably be hailed as the greatest golfer of all time by the time his career comes to an end.
Just to put his career into perspective, Tiger Woods has won thirteen professional Major Golf Tournaments,(4 US Masters, 4 US PGA’s, 3 British Open’s and two US Open’s), and is second only to the legendary Jack Niklaus, who has 20. He has won 64 Tournaments on the USPGA Tour. He is the youngest player ever to achieve the ‘Grand Slam’ of golf, and he is the fastest and youngest to win 50 Tournaments within the PGA. He has held the Number One position in the World Rankings for the greatest number of weeks, and his position continues to remain unchallenged. He has been awarded the PGA Player of the Year a record 9 times, the Byron Nelson Award for the lowest adjusted scoring average a record 8 times and has tied Niklaus’s record of leading the money list in 8 different seasons. He is a formidable man and will no doubt attract the most attention in this years Ryder Cup.
His Ryder Cup record is good too, but its not as good as one might think. He has made 5 Ryder Cup appearances and has played the maximum 25 times. He has however only won 10 of these matches and halved 2, and has been on the losing end no fewer than 13 times. In his 5 singles matches, Woods has won 3,halved one and lost one. This record has led many observers to question Wood’s team play and will no doubt be a talking point in this year’s match.
Nick Faldo, will no doubt remind his team of Wood’s vulnerability in Team events, particularly those who will face him in the fourballs, foursomes and singles.
