Steve Stricker - USA Ryder Cup Team

Steve StrickerSteve Stricker is a veteran professional who’s resurgence over the last two years has seen him shoot from golfing obscurity to becoming one of the top ten golfers in the world. He turned professional in 1990 and has 4 victories on the US PGA Tour. His most successful season came in 1996 when he won both the Kemper Open and the Motorola Western Open, That year he had seven top ten finishes and eventually finished 4th on the USPGA Order of Merit.

Steve’s third win came in 2001 when he won the prestigious WGC Match Play Championship where he won the million dollar first prize. His most recent victory came in 2007 when he won the Barclays Tournament. It was his first win on American soil for 11 years. His best Major performance came in 1998 when he finished runner up to Vijay Singh in the US PGA. He has however had several other top finishes in Majors, including six top 20 finishes in the US Open. A Tournamenet where he has finished in 5th place twice.

Due in the main to seven top ten finishes in 2006, Steve was voted as PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year. His resurgence has continued, he qualified for the Presidents Cup, won the Barclays and finished runner-up in the Fed-Ex Play offs to Tiger Woods. He reached a high of 4th in the World rankings and was once again voted Comeback Player of the Year by the PGA.

His runner-uip position to Daniel Chopra in this year’s Mercedez Benz Championship saw him climb one more place to 3rd in the World. Thats not bad for a golfer who has yet to win a Major and is only just going to make his Ryder Cup debut. He currently occupies the number 5 spot.
