Sergio Garcia28 Year old Sergio García, began playing golf when he was three years old. He was taught how to swing a club, by his Father.

He was to set a very significant record at the age of 16 when he became the youngest player ever to make the cut in a European Tour event. He also became the youngest player to win a European Amateur event.

Sergio Turned professional in 1999, aged 19 and soon became a household name after his titanic struggle with Tiger Woods in the 1999 USPGA Major Championship. He eventually finished second, but was being talked up as the next best thing in golf, behind Tiger. Unfortunately, Garcia has never quite reached the golfing stars, he is still yet to win a Major.

Championship and came close to achieving this last year in the British Open, when he lost in a very exciting play-off to Padraig Harrington. He has not won a Tournament for over two years.

Nonetheless, he has spent over 200 weeks, between 2000 and 2007 in the World’s top ten and he remains in the top twenty despite this lean patch. He has won a total of six US PGA Tournaments and also six on the European Tour.

García has been a member of the European Ryder Cup Team on the last four occassions and has a very impressive record. He has won a total of 14 matches, has tied three others and has only lost three. He has become somewhat of aTalisman for the Team and is certainly feared by the Americans. He won all four of his foursome’s and fourball’s in 2006, but sadly he went down in his singles match to Stewart Cink, 4 &3.
