Paul Lawrie

Paul Lawrie Odds - 2012 European Ryder Cup Team

Paul Lawrie will be playing in his second Ryder Cup in Medinah after a remarkable return to form over the past 18 months or so. The Scot last played in the Ryder Cup back in 1999 after his famous Open Championship success meaning there will be a gap of 13 years between his first and second caps. He will be the old man of the European Team at Medinah and his influence on the matches is likely to be key for captain, Jose Maria Olazabal.

Lawrie last played in the Ryder Cup back in 1999 when he formed a successful partnership with Colin Montgomerie, albeit in a losing effort in the end. Lawrie took to the pressure cooker atmosphere like a duck to water to win 3.5 points and he will be looking to do something similar in 2012.

Following that period of success of Lawrie in the late 90's he went into the wilderness for some years with the Scot falling down the rankings and seemingly out of top level golf for the rest of his career. 2011 was the turning point though as Lawrie won the Andalucian Open in March to win his first title for no less than nine years.

Two more titles have followed for Lawrie in 2012 with the Qatar Masters and the recent Johnnie  Walker Championship trophies sitting nicely in his trophy cabinet at home. That along with a string of solid performances has seen Lawrie qualify in some style for the Ryder Cup team this season and bearing in mind his form he is likely to be a key member of the team.
