Padraig HarringtonPadraig Harrington is one of the best golfers to come out of Ireland and indeed Europe over the past ten years. He has won Tournaments on both the European and US PGA Tours and won the British Open in 2007,after a thrilling play off with Sergio Garcia. He backed up his first Major win with two more in 2008 when he won the Claret Jug for the second-year-in-a-row, he then went over to America to win the USPGA Championship in some style to add to his CV. He has not won a tournament since though and appears to have played his best golf, he is a big name though and his experience should help the European team at Medinah Country Club..

Padraig had a very successful amateur career and he turned Professional in 1995 and joined the European Tour a year later. He was rewarded with an early Tour victory, winning the Spanish Open the same year. Amazingly it took him a few years to win his next one, but his record of finishing second in Tournaments was incredible. He finished second, four times in 1999. His winning touch came back in 2000 and he had a win each year until 2004. He has finished in the European Tour Order of Merit, seven times, winning it in 2006.

He has appeared frequently on the US PGA Tour, winning the Honda Classic in 2005 and following that up with a win in the Barclay Classic, after sinking a 65 foot putt on the final hole to beat Jim Furyk.

He has played in the last six Ryder Cups so has vast experience, despite that though his record in recent matches is not as good as some might think leaving many to think he would miss out in 2012. It is unlikely he will qualify on his own so Harrington may once again be left hoping for a wild card pick for Medinah Country Club.
