Nick Dougherty - Ryder Cup Europe

\"NickNick Dougherty is a protégé of Ryder Cup Captain, Nick Faldo. After winning the 1999 World Boys Championship. Nick went on to win three Tournaments in the Faldo Junior Series event. As an amateur he was also a member of the winning Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup Team in 2001. He has secured a total of 10 wins on the Amateur circuit until turning professional in 2001.

He gained qualification to the European PGA Tour by the qualification school route and in his first season in 2002 he was the winner of the Henry Cotton, ‘Rookie’ of the year award.

Illness dogged Nick for the next two years and it was only in 2005 that he achieved his first win on the Tour, winning the Singapore Masters. He performed consistently well throughout 2005 reaching the top 100 of the World Rankings. He also ended the season in 15th place on the European Tour Order of Merit. He continued his good form until halfway though 2006 before losing his way slightly, all in all he had a disappointimg year.

He regained his form howeverv in 2007 and after qualifying for the US Open, made huge headlines when he led the Tournament after the first round. It was always going to be difficult for him to win the Tournament, but his 7th place was his his best result in a Major Tournament to date.

Later that year Nick won his second European Tour Title, when triunphant in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and ended up a very creditable 11th on the European Tour Order of Merit. He has had a consistent start to 2008, and his world ranking has gone to a career high of 54.

He was 33rd in the US Masters this year and 8th in the Italian Open in May 2008.

Nick is making his Ryder Cup debut.
