Jim Furyk - USA Ryder Cup Team
Jim Furyk was always destined to be a golfer, even though he started his sporting life as a keen Basketball Player. His father Mike, however was a local Club Professional and it was him who first put a club in Jim’s hands. By the time Jim had left High School, he was already the State Golfing Champion.
He actually turned professional in 1992 and competed on what was known then as the Nike Tour. He won his first Professional Tournament a year later and as a consequence qualified for the full USPGA Tour.
Jim has been remarkably consistent and won at least one Tournament a year, between 1995 and 2003. He is a regular in the World’s top ten player rankings and in 2006 was ranked second only to Tiger Woods. He has won over 20 Golfing Tournaments worldwide, but his biggest success to date came when he won the US Open Golf Championship in 2003, it was his first Major, but maybe not his last. He is currently ranked 7th in the World.
In the 2006 Ryder Cup, The American Captain, Tom Lehman, paired Jim with Tiger Woods in all the foursome and fourball matches, where they came out even, winning two and losing two. It’s highly possible that they may repeat that this year. Jim’s single matches have been excellent; in five Ryder Cups he has only been beaten once and has won three.
This should be an interesting point to note when considering any Ryder Cup betting.
