Hunter Mahan - USA Ryder Cup Team 2012

Hunter Mahan was a wild card pick from Paul Azinger in 2008 in the US victory at Valhalla,  he qualified automatically for the team at Celtic Manor and looks set to do the same for Medinah this season. He has been steadily rising up the world rankings for some time now and it appears that he is starting to realise his potential at this level. Mahan has shot up the rankings over the past few months and as such he will be expected to be one of the leaders of the American team this year.

On his Ryder Cup debut he was a big success picking up 3.5 points and going unbeaten throughout the weekend, this was despite the fact that he was regarded by many as a surprise call up up by Azinger prior to that tournament. Mahan had a tougher time in Wales in 2010 when he could only manage the one point but his experience over the last few years will be crucial for the Americans at Medinah.

That experience means that he could well be one of the key members for the Americans in Chicago this year and Davis Love III could well rely on him to perform to the best of his ability. Mahan has long been destined for a big career in the pro game, he had a very successful amateur career, he won the Haskins Award in 2003 for Outstanding Collegiate Golfer.
