Ryder Cup Result 2008 - Valhalla Country Club

The Americans went into the 2008 Ryder cup without a win in the matches since the turn of the century, Paul Azinger was hoping to lead the Americans to success while Sir Nick Faldo was charged with continuing the success of the Europeans in Valhalla. The matches took place at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky and it would prove a lucky course for the home team as they claimed the Cup back.

Azinger was missing Tiger Woods through injury but in the end it proved not to matter with the American team winning 16.5 to 11.5 in what in the end was a crushing win. The Europeans struggled on home soil with only really Ian Poulter rising to the challenege, he picked up four out of five points as a wild card. The problem for the Europeans was that their big names were not on their game with the likes of Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington failing to play to their best ability.

The USA Team must be given credit though with them displaying a great team ethic and togetherness despite not winning the Ryder Cup since 1999, Anthony Kim was hugely impressive making his debut and picking up an excellent 3.5 points, every one contributed though and that was the key to their success. The home team got great support from the galleries with the likes of Boo Weekley and JB Holmes in particular becoming fans favourites over the course of the weekend.

USA 16.5 - Europe 11.5
