2004 Ryder Cup Result

\"2004The European Ryder Cup Team broke all records when retaining the Ryder Cup at the Oakland Hills Country Golf Club, and in so doing meted out the worst defeat for the Americans in this event for 77 years. The win was secured by Europe dominating the final day singles, they won these singles by 7.5 points to the Americans 4.5 and proved that in one against one encounters that the Europeans excelled. The final score of 18.5 to 9.5 was emphatic and worse still for the Americans it was repeated in Ireland 2 years later. It also matched the record total set by the U.S. against Europe at Walton Heath Golf Club in England in 1981.

Colin Montgomerie, already a long time Ryder Cup hero, was only selected as a Wildcard, but proved yet again that his presence, leadership and of course ability was invaluable to the Europeans and it was fitting that in winning his match against David Toms that the trophy was secured.

Bernard langer, who captained the team was jubilant at the end "I\'m so happy for all the guys, we achieved it much easier than we thought we would, and beat one of the strongest U.S. teams in Ryder Cup history on their home soil. This is just unbelievable.”
